What a great start to the week! Mrs Canon came in to lead another woodwind assembly and guess what-she played two recorders at the same time! Wow! We heard those children who learn to play the recorder perform and marveled at how much progress they have made including Andreea and Maia who have only been learning a few months. Well done children!
At News and Views assembly Mrs Geddes asked the children what they wanted to be when they grow up. Eric said he wants to be a teacher, Kitty wants to be a horse riding champion. Fatema wants to be a chef and Lucian wants to be a scientist. Take a look at the photos below to see what some of the other children said. Then we talked about how St Meryl School helps us get ready to be a grown-up.
We had a Spanish Cultural Learning Day today too with Canela Fina visiting the school to run art workshops based on the work of Frida Kahlo. Have a look at our photos below.
Elsewhere in the school Year 1 were busy recounting the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears-see below for some AMAZING Year 1 writing. And some of our Year 5 children started their one-to-one on-line maths tuition.
I spent some time with Year 5 today as they worked on a design challenge set by Miss Gocher. As part of their 'Take One Book' work the children have read 'The Tin Snail.' In this book Angelo is set a challenge to make a vehicle strong enough to carry a range of things including a farmer, his wife, two chickens and a dozen eggs. So Miss Gocher set the class a STEM challenge to design and make a pulley system strong enough to lift three eggs at least a metre off the ground. Take a look at the photos below to see how the children got on. Great work Year 5!
