The Governing Body of St Meryl School consists of ten members; three parent governors, one Local Authority governor, one staff Governor, the headteacher and four co-opted governors. There are also two associate governors who consult and advise on matters relevant to their particular field of expertise.

The full Governing Body meets six times per year, each half-term. The Resources committee meets once per term. 

The Governing Body of St Meryl School has three core functions:

1. Ensuring clarity of vision and strategic direction.

2. Overseeing the finances of the school and ensuring that money is well spent.

3. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.

They do this by asking challenging questions based on what they know about the school through visits, meetings with the headteacher and other leaders and analysis of data.
