Dear Year 5,
This is my final goodbye to you. I am so proud of the way that you have been coping with the Lockdown Situation. Keep working hard and playing hard. Stay healthy and keep yourselves cheerful together with your families. I will be thinking of you all and I hope that you will be returning to school as soon it safe to do so.
I wish you all the best of luck for the rest of this year, and for Year 6 too. You are all awesome.
Friday 3rd April
Dear Year 5,
To begin I would like to say that I am very proud of the way that you have been managing this unprecedented situation with your families. I have received so many cheerful emails from your parents telling me about what you are doing and how well you have been completing different activities at home. It was so difficult to decide who was going to be this week's virtual star as I have received so many exceptional pieces of work from so many different children. You are all superstars.
I have been taking a screenshot of the activity on Sumdog each day, and I will upload them so that you can see who the top three children are each day. Well done everyone, with all your hard work.
I would like to wish you the happiest Easter Break that you are able, together with your families. Take care of yourselves and keep those spirits high. I have put some fun holiday challenges up for you to do if you wish. Don't forget that you can take part in the Sumdog Challenge until 9th April. Sumdog have also given free access to other areas of their website, so you can practise your grammar and spelling too. If you would like to, you can send pictures to Year5@stmeryl.herts.sch.uk and I will put them on our Year 5 page.
Make sure you stay safe and healthy,

Place Value Investigations
Year 5 created their own 6 (or even 7) digit numbers. We then looked at the properties of these numbers, in terms of place value, but also some other properties (digit sum, odd and even digits, rounding and adding on). We then put all of this information into a Phoetic!
