Week beginning 20th May

Year 4 visited Hendon RAF Museum today. They participated in a Second World War workshop as well as learning about the role of the RAF during the war.
Wednesday to Friday
Year 5 went to Tolmers. They participated in a variety of activities such as canoeing, caving, climbing, go-karting, archery and shooting. On our last night we had a talent show-well done to Max and Charles for winning with your amazing song.

Week beginning 29th April
Thu 09 May 2019On Tuesday Mrs Geddes took some of the children in our orchestra to a singing event at Woodhall School. Throughout the day children learnt to sing a variety of songs and about how songs are constructed. The day culminated in a performance to parents. It was a great day-well done children!
Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 'Stay and Learn' morning on Wednesday was, as ever, very well attended by parents. Thank you for coming along to join in with learning in maths.
Also on Wednesday we had our first chick hatch out of it's shell!!!!!

Thu 09 May 2019We had an exciting day on Thursday with Year 5's class assembly followed by a Rock Steady performance. It was great to hear about all of the amazing learning that has taken place in Year 5 this term and to rock out with the Rock Steady bands! -
Week beginning 25th March
Fri 29 Mar 2019This week Children in Year 5 had the opportunity to work with a visual artist for 2 days to design, create and plant two living willow structures. They look amazing and will be here for many years to come once completed. The children worked hard as a team in the sunshine and were inspired by our visitor.
It was also the turn of Year 4 to present their class assembly. We all enjoyed listening to their electricity song and hearing about all their learning as part of their India topic. Well done Year 4!
On Friday Mrs Geddes presented Year 5 with their Bikeability certificates and our Arts Ambassadors with their Arts Award certificates from Trinity College London.

The week was started by an assembly led by the Eco Council. They told us about plastic in the oceans and reminded us all about where and how we can re-cycle at school.
Friday
Year 4 visited the Old Court House in St Albans. The children got to re-enact two real cases from Victorian times and then help to decide the verdict! We got to visit the cells and study historical artefacts to deepen our understanding of life in the past. It was a great trip!

Tue 19 Mar 2019It's S.T.E.A.M Week!
This week we have been engaged in a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and mathematics learning opportunities.
The theme of the week was 'Journeys' and our resident professors Paice and Marshall started the week by telling us all in assembly the story of how engineers, designers, mathematicians and scientists collaborated to create the Channel Tunnel.
Children in Early Years learnt about solids, liquids and viscosity. They predicted what would happen when eggs are dropped on different surfaces and made balloon rockets. Older children helped Nursery and Reception to make brains and learn about the function of different parts of the brain.
In Year 1 children investigated static electricity inspired by the newt scene in the book 'Matilda.' They create chemical reactions by mixing acids and alkalis and used washing-up liquid to capture the bubbles. They learnt about bees and pollination.
In Year 2 children learnt about plastic in our oceans and designed and made board games. They experimented with aeroplanes to learn about air resistance and made wheels and axles.
In Year 3 children enjoyed gathering natural materials for their journey sticks and making fact files to accompany their brilliant bird sculptures.
Children in Year 4 enjoyed making electrical circuits using saltdough and then using their maths skills to construct pictograms.
In Year 5 the children experienced a whole day of design technology when they made frame structures.
In Year 6 there was a space theme with children writing newspaper articles based on 'Space Oddity', making lunar buggies and pie charts.
Meanwhile our arts ambassadors created some stunning work based on Aboriginal art.
One of the highlights of the week was when children in Years 5 and 6 participated in a Skype interview with Tim from the European Space Agency.
All of this amazing learning was shared with parents at a special assembly on the Friday.

Mrs Geddes spoke to the children about Fair Trade. We thought about the fact that £2.00, roughly the cost of two big bars of chocolate, is enough to provide water, healthcare, education and employment for a person in some parts of the world.
Tuesday
Pancake day! We had great fun flipping pancakes and learning about Lent. Mrs Geddes set the children a challenge of beating some pancake world records for the highest toss of a pancake and the most flips in one minute. Mia managed 19-not quite a world record but a great effort!
Thursday
We had a read-a-round today as part of our work this week to celebrate World Book day. All of the teachers rotated round to different classrooms to read their favourite stories to the children.

Friday
We hosted our fair Trade coffee morning and much cake was consumed!
Also, in the Hall we had the Year 3 art gallery. The children show-cased their work to the other classes. Our arts ambassadors were on-hand to guide and support our visitors and get them involved in some hands-on art activities.
What a great way to end the week!

Take a look at the photograph of an amazing headdress made by one of our star Year 6 pupils below! So talented!
Nursery and Reception made some clay faces today with natural materials. You can see some photos below but why don't you come and have a look at the trees in our woodland area to see the real things?
Tuesday
Today we found a starfish on the playground. Yes-a starfish! (With one leg missing!) Our current theory is that it was dropped from the mouth of a seagull flying over the playground. We brought it in to school and put it on our Eco Council display table.
Wednesday

Thursday
It was the turn of Year 2 to present their learning in their class assembly this morning. It was great-well done Year 2!
And, the best bit about today-the fire engine came back again to visit! Year 2 re-created the great fire on London by actually burning the houses they had made. It was

Week beginning 11th February

We were treated to a trampoline assembly today. Year 2 show-cased their skills as did those children who benefit from extra trampoline sessions with Mrs Benford. It was very impressive. Mackie did 100 tuck jumps in a minute! Wow!
Wednesday
We were visited by the fire engine at school today!
At staff meeting the teachers learnt how to do willow weaving so that they could teach it to the children!
Thursday
Year 4 boys attended the indoor athletics final after school at Royal masonic School. Although they didn't win they displayed excellent sporting behaviour and tried their very best. Well done boys!
